About Us \ Statement of Faith
Our "Statement of Faith" is going to be a bit long and hopefully not too confusing. It has become the standard for churches to use a statement of faith that reads more like a systematic theology. We have one of these posted here. You’re probably interested in it if you have a church background and want to confirm the orthodoxy of our beliefs. Even the earliest creeds developed in response to heresies in the church, and people rightly look at them for the same purposes today.
The practice of systematically looking at our faith like this didn’t really develop until the 13th century and Thomas Aquinas. While helpful, we didn’t leave it at this because most people don’t think like this, the Bible doesn’t read like this, and we weren’t satisfied with it as the representation of what we believe. So we have also posted two other components of our statement of faith.
The first is the Apostle’s Creed. Its origins are not completely known, but it is the first recognized confession of faith of the early church, likely developed in the 1st or 2nd centuries. It is our way of tying our faith back to that of the earliest followers of Christ. After 2,000 years, the basics of this faith have not changed.
The second is a working attempt at a concise description of the storyline of the Bible. This is how we believe most people best grasp the Christian faith, as a story of a God chasing down a wandering people. This will change but, for those new to the faith that have wandered onto this page, our guess is that this will make the most sense to you.
Please let us know if you have any questions or comments about anything you find on this page. Thanks!
